About Us

How I can help you: I enjoy the creative process and learning from others. I am a great team player and can bring ideas to the table (or any other type of furniture you may need) that you may not have considered. Even when things are difficult, I always have a positive attitude and am ready to roll up my sleeves to accomplish our project with you.

Why: I have always been a creative person. Art, writing, photography, and woodworking are things that I have often applied myself to while journeying through life. I enjoy trying new things often. When given the opportunity to do something or hire someone else to do it, I do research, learn, and jump in with both feet. Once, I rebuilt the carburetor for my 1966 Mustang convertible in my dorm room.

What: In my first few decades so far, I have done quite a few things:

  • An avid reader as a child read nearly every book in the library on a subject before moving to the next
  • Earned my Eagle Scout Badge
  • Sang in the Grand Ole Opry at the Country Music Awards
  • Learned to fly gliders and single-engine planes
  • Became a shooting instructor
  • Graduated from the United States Air Force Academy
  • Kept the Stealth Fighter F-117 flying
  • Became a Husband
  • Became a father x 3
  • Taught ROTC at Southern Illinois University
  • Earned my MBA
  • Worked on a Navy Three Star Admiral’s staff in Washington, D.C.
  • Cubmaster for my son with a new theme for each monthly meeting
  • Deployed to Iraq three times, twice as an Advisor helping the Iraqi military grow
  • Ran two top secret programs (I would tell you but I’d have to x you)
  • Learned photography and had work published in a national magazine

In addition to the afore-mentioned things, I have been woodworking since I was in grade school when Mr. Terwilliger taught me to make a wood lamp.  The military has one rule that is true of all services; you go where your Uncle Sam tells you.  For me, that meant moving every three years for a total of 7 moves.  With each move there was something else that needed to be built or changed in my home.  Little by little I have added skills and tools.

Lemon Woodworks – Travis Vires Biography

I’m married with three grown children and working on three decades with my wife, so far so good.   I started woodworking in junior high shop class and my Eagle Scout project was building a huge wood cabinet for my local church.

While serving 20 years in the Air Force my wife would look at me during each of our 14 moves and say, “Can you build me something to go right there?”   Tables, cabinets, chess boards, and bookshelves, I learned a little more with each project and bought another tool to make my work better.

I have lived in Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Alaska, Illinois, Virginia, Florida, Alabama, and Georgia all the while building things for my family and friends.  Three tours in Iraq, taught me the advantages of being able to do things myself and thinking outside the box.  Few things are as fulfilling as completing a handmade project in a way that is even better than the customer could imagine.
